Wall Ties
Wall ties are laid into brickwork to provide stability to the brickwork and the surrounding area.
They are laid at 600mm maximum centres, both horizontally and vertically.
There are many different types of wall ties, for many different types of situations.
I doubt I can list them all here as I have used some really weird ones over the years that I no longer see anymore.
All wall ties are generally zinc plated or galvanized.

Face wall ties, are nailed into the back of the stud wall in brick veneer construction.
They were introduced when sisalation became madatory in residential construction.
The one on the right is the modern one in use.
Nail in ties, were widely used in brick veneer construction prior to the introduction of sisalation, they were left hanging out of the back of the brickwork and the carpenter nailed them into the stud, this had the effect of letting the carpenter straighten the stud if it was bowed at the same time.
These ties generally rust off where they are nailed into the stud.
Solid brick ties, the one on the left was called a lolly stick for obvious reasons and is no longer used.
The one on the right (3rd pic) is the current light duty solid brick, single leg double ring wall tie, the red colour signifies that it is light duty.
Coastal areas have special needs and now use Stainless Steel ties.
